The Anatomy of a 'Good' Website

A website is only as good as it is effective.  Five years ago an effective website was simply a successful communicator.  It served as little more than an online billboard, brochure, or catalog with content that often just mirrored those.  The web strategy of most businesses was little more than to launch a website.

In the past five years, what ‘Web 2.0’ has defined is the continued evolution of a website from something inanimate to a living thing in a thriving and fiercely competitive ecosystem.

Fairytales, from the Grimm to the Goose and Aesop in between invoke potent shared images.  Told to so many so early and retold and reimagined throughout our lives, they give us a common cultural palette to paint our thoughts.

 And they make great Disney musicals.  

They create easy allegories with remarkable consistency, examples that can be used effectively with almost any audience.

So, as Jocelyn and I were in the car, listening to a song from Cinderella as we drove along on the freeway, I couldn’t help but think of all those images in your mind as well – Ugly stepsisters, fairy
